Le Mortelle

Le Mortelle estate is located in the heart of the Maremma, some 10 km from Castiglione della Pescaia. The Antinori family owns there some very vines whose reputation is very old, as shows a legal act of 1863 that says that they are part of the Poggio Franco, still a reference for quality wines in the region.

Antinori bought the estate in 1999, as the family was convinced that the area, still not very well known, could produce great wines. Antinori invested a lot on the estate, building a whole new state-of-the-art winery partially underground, so as to reduce the impact on the landscape. All the winemaking processes are done by gravity, which saves energy and improves the quality of the wines.

The estate has 270 hectares, of which 170 hectares under vines, mainly cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc, to which new plantations of vermentino, ansonica, viognier and some carménère have recently been added.

All the wines produced here are terroir wines that express the great quality potential of the Maremma, with the Antinori touch.
