La Braccesca
Owned by Antinori since 1990, La Braccesca combines tradition and innovation. The wine estate – an old historical farm has a very nice view on the superb scenery near the city of Cortona.
It spreads over 508 hectares of which 340 hectares are under vines, in two parts.
On the one side, 237 hectares on the border between Montepulciano and Cortona, and on the other side 103 hectares nearer to Montepulciano ; this latter part contains three outstanding red grape vineyards: Cervognano, Santa Pia and Gracciano.
In the Montepulciano area, the vineyards are mainly planted with sangiovese (aka prugnolo gentile), while in the Cortona, it is mainly shiraz and a little merlot.
The cellar has been dug out under the ground and is divided in two spaces : one for the barrels and one for the larger vats and tanks. Several types of wood are used, and also stainless steel.
Tradition and innovation are combined to make outstanding and impressive wines.
