Haras de Pirque
Haras de Pirque is located in the Northern part of the Maipo Valley, in Chili. It combines a stud farm (haras) and a winery, whose building are in a horseshoe shape. Most of the winemaking processes are done by gravity.
The vineyards lie between 550 and 650 metres above sea level, on the foothills of the Andes. The climate conditions are unique, influenced by the proximity of the Andes, but also by the breezes from the pacific. The thermal range between day and night is huge (up to 20° C), which allows the grapes to ripen slowly and well. The alluvial soils are mainly clay.
Since 2016, all the vines are managed organically and hand-harvested. These take place around mid-May. The grapes planted on the estate are cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, carménère, shiraz, sauvignon blanc and chardonnay.
Haras de Pirque is trying to reduce its carbon footprint and has started various projects of sustainable development and socially responsible systems.
