Fattoria Aldobrandesca
Fattoria Aldobrandesca lies in South-Western Tuscany, in the Maremma. Not on the coastline, but in the hinterland. This area is well known for its Etruscan past and for its tuf, a type of stone with which a lot of houses have been built. Many villages and cities in the region look like open air museums today.
The estate comprises some 100 hectares of vineyards at the foot of the hill on which the old village of Sovana is built. This area is thus both rich in nature and history. The vines are some 200 meters above sea level, on volcanic soils, above a tuf substrate.
Fattoria Aldobrandesca combines the old and the new. The culture of the aleatico, a very ancient local grape dating back to the Etruscans, has been revived here. But Antinori has also started to plant new grapes like malbec, a varietal very well suited to this area.
